Check The Caulking

Moisture issues under your house can lead to significant problems, but checking caulking is a crucial step to safeguard your home. Caulking seals gaps and prevents water from seeping in.

  • Inspect Exterior Caulking: Examine all exterior caulking, paying close attention to areas where siding, windows, and doors meet the foundation. Look for cracks, gaps, or missing caulk. If any are found, they should be promptly re-caulked.
  • Check Foundation Caulking: Inspect the caulk between the foundation and the ground. Ensure there are no gaps or breaks that could allow moisture to enter.
  • Look for Signs of Moisture: While inspecting the caulking, check for any signs of moisture, such as mold or mildew. These indications suggest water may be leaking in and should be addressed immediately.
  • Use a Moisture Meter: If you suspect moisture issues, use a moisture meter to measure moisture levels under your house. Readings above 15% may indicate potential problems.
