Term Drywall Performance

What is a normal moisture reading for drywall?

The normal moisture content of drywall is typically between 5% and 12%. Readings above 15% may indicate excessive moisture, which can lead to mold growth and other problems.

Drywall is a porous material, meaning that it can absorb moisture from the air. This is why it is important to keep drywall dry during storage and installation. If drywall gets wet, it can become damaged and may need to be replaced.

There are a few things that can affect the moisture content of drywall, including:

  • The relative humidity of the air
  • The temperature of the air
  • The amount of ventilation in the area
  • The presence of moisture sources, such as leaks or spills

If you are concerned about the moisture content of your drywall, you can use a moisture meter to measure it. Moisture meters are available at most hardware stores.
